We all hit rough patches, times when we feel unmotivated or unsure. This quick read gives practical ways to shift your mindset and take the next small step forward, no matter where you’re starting from.
At some point in life, everyone feels stuck. It might show up as a lack of motivation, decision paralysis, or simply a sense that nothing is moving forward even when you're trying. This feeling can sneak up on you in school, at work, in relationships, or within yourself.
The good news?
Feeling stuck isn’t a sign of failure. It’s usually a sign that something in your life needs attention, a shift in mindset, a break, a fresh perspective, or a change in pace.
Why do we get stuck?
You may be overwhelmed, exhausted, overthinking, afraid of failure, or comparing yourself to others. Sometimes we expect ourselves to “have it all together” all the time and when we don’t, we freeze.
But even the smallest step can change the entire direction of your day.
Try this when you feel stuck:
😮💨 Breathe: Seriously. Take five slow breaths. Let your shoulders drop. This helps calm your nervous system.
🎯 Identify one small action: Ask yourself: “What’s one tiny thing I can do today?” It could be sending one email, drinking water, journaling, or making your bed. Small wins build momentum.
🪜 Break big goals into baby steps: Instead of saying “I need to fix everything,” try “What’s the first 5% I can focus on?”
🌳 Get out of your current space: A walk, a change of scenery, or even standing up and stretching can help shift your mindset.
✍️ Speak it out or write it down: When we name how we’re feeling, it takes some of the pressure off. Talk to someone, or journal it out.
A gentle reminder:
You don’t need to be moving fast to be moving forward. And you don’t have to figure it all out right now. Keep going, even if it’s at a crawl.
You’re not behind - you’re just in a moment of pause before your next step.
